I use Vision 5K PLUS on my laptop computer with CPU i7-10750H and GPU RTX 2070 (Mobile). Works well so far.
In the beginning I experienced troubles with the HMD.
It was working for 20~30 seconds after start(reset, reboot, service restart) and than it shuts off image (position sensors were still working).
The laptop has only mini DisplayPort 1.4 video output.
I tried several "mini DisplayPort male to DisplayPort female" adapters including one 1.4 Vesa compliant HBR3 8K/60Hz adapter. Still the HMD was not working.
Eventually I updated my Windows 10 Home to version 20H2 build 19042.685 and the HMD finally worked well!!!
I really enjoy using Vision 5K PLUS and plan to purchase Vision 8K X bundle when it becomes available here in Japan.
I never tried games as I have no controllers and base stations.
Recieved the 5k+ and was happy with it at first, but couldnt make the picture sharp enough and was seeing significant god Ray's. I researched pimax quite a bit and was ready to tinker with things to make the experience what I wanted it to be, but after a bit of back and forth I realized I was having problems with the new foam facial interface setup: it was too thin, and my eyes were too close to the lenses. After a bit more research I ended up buying a vive leather PU foam replacement pad and cutting it to fit the 5k+. It looks a bit janky but does the job and is more comfortable than the stock foam. Long story short I am really happy with my pimax but wish it would ship with a variety of foam thicknesses so we didnt have to do anything to make it work. Either that or have an "eye relief" mechanism like the vive. After all this I agree with most of the internet that if you can devote some time to making the pimax work for you it is unlike anything else on the market and a really amazing experience. The FOV is no joke but neither is the strain on your PC, and now that we are in the next era of GPUs we should see overall performance increases even at the largest FOVs and highest frame rates.
Once you get your headset, immediately look up the pimax home beta and download it. The optimization tools work amazingly, the home screen is wonderful and it makes the whole experience truly better. If pimax can launch with program in the future the whole of it will be alot smoother of an experience.
ONE small problem wih the company, not the headset:
I ordered and was charged for a silicon protective sleeve with my headset, and it did not arrive with it. I have emailed and called customer service numerous times and was told I would get a new one, then told I needed to verify I did not get it (I dont know how this is possible) then told again it would ship out shortly. At this point it has been a month and as far as I know my sleeve hasnt shipped. Annoying.
A couple months ago got an Oculus Quest 1 and Flight Sims and Games changed forever for me.. I recently bought the Quest 2 and its not bad but the FOV is not even better than the Quest 1.. SO I decided to get a PIMAX and after a lot of research and based on my system decided on the PIMAX 5 Plus.. WOW at 120 hz DCS looks amazing ! I am running on RTX 2060 Ultra KO from EVGA - ( 2070 speeds) no OC and this still is amazing.. Like night and day from both Oculuses. I bought the set used along with a complete HTC Vive with Controllers and Lighthouses.. Finally got everything figured out. Love this headset so far ! I can play oculus games and steam.. I bought it with a comfort kit and for under $20 got a replacement foam padding for the face. Properly configured this thing is a beast !
Overall experience has been very positive so far. This is my second headset I've owned having replaced my Vive CV1 and the picture quality was an immediate improvement. I havent had any issues with the software either and find it relatively easy to navigate and tweak to suit my needs. I would recommend this headset to anyone looking for a good value for their buck.
I didn't think that something could be so immersive!
I have in my room some VR headsets: HTC Vive, Cosmos, HP first generation, Samsung Odyssey Plus, Valve Index, Oculus Rift S and finally a PIMAX 5K+.
All the better things of other headset 're in this my last little jewel of tecnology.
Extremely light and confortable.
Having a refresh rate at 144hz is the best option for my 2080ti that need to be used!
What to say? What to add?
