Crystal Light brings 2880 × 2880 resolution and a 110° field of view at a more accessible price point. Dream Air takes a different direction entirely — Micro-OLED panels, built-in Wi-Fi 7 wireless, and an ultra-light sub-600 g design optimised for long-session comfort and social VR.

Crystal Super is the definitive sim headset. Its up to 140° horizontal FOV lets you read instruments and spot traffic in peripheral vision without turning your head, while 57 / 50 PPD ensures cockpit gauges and track markings are razor-sharp at distance. If budget is a factor, Crystal Light at 110° FOV and 35 PPD is also an outstanding sim choice that covers the vast majority of what simulation demands.

Is Dream Air suitable for PCVR gaming?

Yes — Dream Air supports both wired PCVR via USB-C and wireless streaming from your PC via Wi-Fi 6E/7. Its Micro-OLED panels deliver vibrant colour depth and high contrast for games. The 105° horizontal FOV is slightly narrower than Crystal models, but the ultra-light design and all-day comfort make it a compelling choice for gamers who play extended sessions. It is particularly well suited to social VR, casual gaming, and multimedia use.

Do Pimax headsets support standalone mode without a PC?

Accepted Answer

Currently, Pimax headsets are primarily designed for PCVR use. Dream Air supports wireless streaming from your PC via Wi-Fi but does not run standalone applications independently. Crystal Super and Crystal Light require a wired DisplayPort 1.4 or USB-C connection to a PC. What accessories come in the box?

Each headset ships with the visor unit, a head cushion, a nose guard, a USB-C cable for firmware and data, and the relevant display cable (DP 1.4 or USB-C). Crystal Super and Crystal Light include Pimax's modular frame and visor kit. Dream Air includes its charging dock and proprietary cable. Controllers, base stations, and prescription lens inserts are sold separately and listed on the product page for each headset.

What PC specifications do I need to run a Pimax headset?

For Crystal Super or Crystal Light we recommend at minimum an NVIDIA RTX 3080 or AMD RX 6800 XT GPU, an Intel Core i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X CPU, 16 GB DDR4 RAM, and a motherboard with a full-bandwidth DisplayPort 1.4 output. For Dream Air in wired mode, a USB-C port with DisplayPort Alt Mode is required. A discrete GPU is essential — integrated graphics are not supported on any Pimax headset.

Does Pimax work with SteamVR?

Yes. All Pimax headsets are fully SteamVR-compatible and use Pimax Play as the companion software for headset configuration, resolution scaling, and FOV adjustments. You can launch any SteamVR title — including those not designed specifically for Pimax — and fine-tune render quality within Pimax Play for the best balance of performance and visual fidelity on your specific GPU.

Can I wear glasses inside a Pimax headset?

Most Pimax headsets provide enough eye relief to accommodate standard prescription glasses frames. However, for the best optical experience we recommend prescription lens inserts (sold separately), which attach magnetically to the lens frame, eliminate glasses pressure on your temples, and allow the headset to sit correctly on your face. All Crystal-series headsets feature adjustable IPD to ensure precise alignment regardless of whether you wear glasses or use inserts.

How do I set up my Pimax headset for the first time?

Start by downloading Pimax Play from pimax.com/downloads. Connect your headset via the supplied cable and follow the on-screen calibration guide: adjust the IPD slider to match your eye separation, fit the headset snugly, and run the room-scale boundary calibration if using SteamVR tracking. Which base stations and controllers are compatible?

Crystal Super and Crystal Light support Valve Index base stations (1.0 and 2.0) and all SteamVR-tracked controllers, including Valve Index controllers, HTC Vive wands, and Pimax's own controllers sold separately. Dream Air uses built-in inside-out tracking with its bundled Pimax controllers. All headset models also support hand tracking without physical controllers via the front-facing cameras, which works across SteamVR-compatible titles that support hand input.

Can I use Pimax headsets with a laptop?

Accepted Answer

It depends on your laptop's GPU and port configuration. A laptop with a discrete NVIDIA RTX 30- or 40-series GPU and a full-bandwidth Thunderbolt 4 or DisplayPort output can run Crystal Light or Dream Air in wired mode. Gaming laptops with a MUX switch (which routes GPU output directly to the port) are strongly preferred. eGPU setups via Thunderbolt 4 can also work with the right enclosure. We do not officially support integrated Intel or AMD graphics, and performance will be limited on lower-tier mobile GPUs.
